The city

Grace Bay and the shallows.

Providenciales is the most developed of the Turks and Caicos Islands, some 37 square miles at the western end of the chain and about 575 miles south-east of Miami. Grace Bay runs along its north shore, with the resorts set back behind the sand; to the south-west, Chalk Sound is a lagoon of pale, milky turquoise.

The sea stays at 25–29 °C all year and the days at 27–32 °C. February to April are the driest months. November is the wettest, and the Atlantic hurricane season runs from early summer to late autumn.

When to go

December to October.

There is little difference between the seasons: highs stay at 27–32 °C and the sea at 25–29 °C. Rain is light for most of the year; November is the one wet month, and late summer and autumn carry the risk of hurricanes.
