The city

Old-town courtyards and a farm on the menu.

The old town of Vilnius is on the UNESCO list, and much of the city’s best cooking happens inside it. Nineteen18 seats guests at a counter off Dominikonų Street; Deep Roots, on Trakų Street in a house of the seventeenth century, cooks with produce from its own farm at Radiškis; both hold a MICHELIN star, as do Džiaugsmas and Demo.

Summer is short and bright. From May to August afternoons reach eighteen to twenty-two degrees and the evenings stay light; winters are long, with highs below freezing from December to February.

Arriving

Six kilometres from the old town.

Vilnius International lies about six kilometres south of the city, with a single runway of 2,515 metres and a control tower staffed around the clock.
