The hotel
On the bluff at White Grass.
The resort stands on a coral bluff on the north-west coast of Tanna, the sheltered side of the island, in six acres of garden. Eighteen bures are spread through the grounds, each with its own balcony looking out to sea. Below them, a jetty leads onto the reef, with snorkelling at the reef edge or in the inner reef pools.
The ground here is the volcanic soil of Mount Yasur, about 25 kilometres to the east, and the island's volcanic rock goes into the treatments at the Nabisa Day Spa. Volcano Island Divers works from the resort. In 2016 White Grass won the Boutique category of the Vanuatu Awards. On land there is a pool, a pitch and putt course, a petanque ground and a small library for guests.

Flying to Tanna.
White Grass airport is about two kilometres away, and the resort runs transfers. Scheduled flights from Port Vila take about 40 minutes. Private aircraft can land at White Grass, an airport of entry with customs, on an unlit runway of about 1,230 metres, so arrivals are by day.
