The hotel

The governors' garden.

For decades this stretch of the Honiara foreshore belonged to the colonial government. British officials used it until independence in 1978, and the governors-general of the new state lived here after them. The decision to sell the land for a hotel drew protests from civil society groups. Building began in August 2007, and the hotel opened in 2009, owned by the Constantinou group from Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands National Provident Fund.

The old residence was kept and renovated, and now holds the reception, restaurants, bars and meeting rooms. Rooms and apartments are built in pods through the garden around it, every one with a view of the water. The pool sits on the seafront over Iron Bottom Sound, with the Florida Islands in view across the strait. A small cultural village stands in the grounds.

  • On the water A waterfront pool with Splash Bar & Grill beside it, looking out across Iron Bottom Sound.
  • In town The shops and offices of central Honiara are next door, and several embassies are within 250 metres.
  • For longer stays Executive suites and serviced apartments with kitchens and laundry.
