The hotel
Below the Iron Gate dam.
Kladovo sits at the downstream end of the Iron Gate, where the Danube leaves its gorges between Serbia and Romania. Aquastar Danube stands on the embankment at Dunavski kej 1, right beside the town beach, and every room looks out over the river or the sand. The Iron Gate I dam, opened in 1972, is about ten kilometres upstream, and Romania is on the far bank.
The hotel has forty-five rooms and nine apartments, three restaurants and three conference halls, and a spa of 800 square metres built around an indoor pool. It works as a base for the gorge: its own boat, the AquaStar Maxim, runs two-hour trips through Đerdap, and coaches leave for archaeological sites and the wine cellars of Rajac. Use of the spa is included in the stay.
