The hotel
The family's retreat in the hills.
The Shrestha family, who built The Dwarika's in Kathmandu from rescued Newar woodwork, went looking for a second site in 2006. Sangita Shrestha found it on a hillside at Dhulikhel, east of the valley. The resort opened in 2013 on about 25 acres of forest, built in the Newar way from wood, earth and stone, with beamed ceilings and handmade textiles in the suites.
In January 2026 Dwarika's Resort became Dwarika's Sanctuary, and the stay changed with the name. It is now all-inclusive and all-suite, with a minimum of three nights. Days follow a programme of Ayurveda, yoga and breathwork, and a visit to the Namobuddha monastery ends with lunch among the monks. The kitchens draw on six farms the family runs across Nepal.
- Pancha Kosha A spa village built on Ayurveda and Buddhist medicine, with a personal Ayurvedic assessment at the start of the stay.
- Rooms for stillness A Himalayan salt house, a meditation cave, chakra chambers and a crystal room, all within the grounds.
- Ananta The infinity pool, with a glass-walled lunch restaurant beside it looking out to the Himalayan horizon.
