The hotel

The first resort in Addu.

Herathera Island Resort was the first resort built in Addu City, the atoll at the southern tip of the Maldives. In 2014 Canaries Pte Ltd bought it from MTDC, the company that had developed it, and Crescendas Hospitality Management took over the running. The relaunch as Canareef Resort Maldives was celebrated at Dharubaaruge in Malé in October 2015, with the resort still rated four stars and every one of its villas on the beach.

The island is long enough for all 271 villas to sit on the sand, with a house reef and a natural lagoon in front. Below the surface, the British Loyalty, a tanker torpedoed in the Second World War, lies close by, and mantas gather at a cleaning station in the atoll. On land, the Addu Nature Park on Hithadhoo, with its wetlands and birds, is nearby.

  • Under water A dive centre and a house reef, with the wreck of the British Loyalty and a manta cleaning station within reach.
  • Across the equator Guests who arrive on the domestic flight from Malé receive an Equator Crossing certificate.
  • Three pools Three swimming pools, a gym open around the clock and a nature trail through the island.
