The hotel
A Lieven estate brought back.
The Lieven family held land here from the late eighteenth century. In the land reform of 1921 Prince Anatol Lieven kept a part of the great Mežotne estate as Mazmežotne: 101 hectares, nine half-burnt buildings and a brick kiln. He farmed it himself and in 1927 set up a seed testing station in the garden. He died in 1937. When the Baltic Germans left for Germany in 1939, his son Karl Johan stayed on as owner, though his wife and daughter went.
The house burnt in the Second World War and was rebuilt in 1952 under a simpler roof, while the barns held livestock. In 2007 Iveta and Āris Burkāns bought the manor with fifteen hectares and began restoring it. Seven buildings now serve again: the manor house, the servants' houses and the dairy hold the rooms, and the stable, barn and vaulted hall take weddings and concerts.
- The spa Aroma steam baths, a salt sauna, a steam room, hot tubs and a bathhouse, with treatments by appointment.
