The hotel

A developer's island on the reef.

The Australian property developer Lang Walker, who also owns the superyacht Kokomo, bought Yaukuve Levu and built the resort with his family. It opened in 2017. The island covers about 140 acres on the edge of the Kadavu group, south of Viti Levu, and sits on the Great Astrolabe Reef, one of the largest reefs in the world.

Twenty-one villas line the beach, from one to three bedrooms, each with an infinity pool and a garden. Five residences of three to six bedrooms stand on the hilltops. A farm of more than two hectares grows produce for the kitchens, and a marine biologist lives on the island. Guests arrive by seaplane or helicopter, low over the reef.

  • The reef A PADI dive centre on the island, with manta rays, reef sharks and turtles on the Great Astrolabe Reef.
  • Yaukuve Spa Sanctuary Treatments drawn from the healing traditions of the Pacific islands.
  • Kaji Club A club for children, with babysitting on request, overnight too.
