The hotel
A Marriott on Playa Dormida.
Marriott opened the resort in 2019 on Playa Dormida, in the Bello Horizonte district on the coast south of Santa Marta, two and a half kilometres from Simón Bolívar airport. The architecture plays with a mix of materials and layers of depth, and the rooms are dressed to reflect the coast outside. Every room and suite faces the Caribbean, the suites from the front row.
Of the 168 keys, 140 are rooms with partial sea views and 28 are oceanfront suites. A pool bar and a chiringuito sit between the pool and the sand, and Cayeye serves the fish of the coast. Further afield, the Tayrona National Park, with its beaches, lagoons and rainforest, and the diving village of Taganga lie on the far side of the city.

Flying to Santa Marta.
Simón Bolívar International (SMR) is 2.5 kilometres away, about five minutes by car. Avianca, LATAM and others fly in from Bogotá, Medellín and Cali, and Copa from Panama City. Private jets use the same 1,700-metre runway; larger aircraft go to Cartagena, thirty-five minutes away by midsize jet.
