The hotel

From sugar estate to private island.

The island was once called Long Island. In the eighteenth century it was a sugar plantation, in the 1940s a sheep ranch, and in the 1980s it became a resort. The planters' house of the 1830s still stands at its heart, restored as The Estate House, and Blackhead Persian sheep still wander the paths. There are no cars; guests ride bicycles along the island's lanes.

Three beaches ring the island behind coral reef, and on Pasture Bay the Hawksbill Project protects the endangered turtles that come ashore to nest. The resort, part of Oetker Hotels, runs on the motto "no signatures, no keys": meals, drinks and activities are included. The MICHELIN Guide gives it two Keys. On Saturday nights there is a barbecue on the beach, and Forbes Travel Guide rates the resort four stars for 2026.

  • The Hawksbill Project Endangered hawksbill turtles nest on Pasture Bay Beach, and the island's programme watches over them.
  • The Estate House Italian dinners in the restored plantation house of the 1830s, with the 1830 Bar inside and a terrace upstairs.
  • Racquets and water Two tennis courts, two pickleball courts and a basketball court, plus the 22 Knots watersports centre and three pools.

Rooms & suites

Cottages, villas and estates.

Accommodation comes in three forms. Some have private pools, outdoor soaking tubs or outdoor showers. Counts differ between sources, so we give none.

  • Rooms and suites Cottages The resort's rooms and suites, all-inclusive like the rest of the island.
  • For families Villas Three, four or five bedrooms. Three nights minimum.
  • Houses Private Estates Houses of five to eleven bedrooms, also three nights minimum.
