The hotel

Wood, sand and frigatebirds.

Barbuda Belle opened on 1 June 2015 at Cedar Tree Point, on the north side of the island, where a pink-sand beach runs for nearly eleven miles with hardly a building on it. The owners built in wood, on a small scale: eight bungalows facing the sea, with the bay on one side and the mangroves of Codrington Lagoon on the other.

The lagoon is the reason many guests come. More than five thousand pairs of magnificent frigatebirds nest on Barbuda, and the hotel runs a boat out to the colony. Days are spent in a kayak through the mangroves, with a snorkel or on a Hobie Cat, then dinner upstairs in the clubhouse, where the French chef cooks fresh fish and seafood with daily specials.

  • The frigatebird colony A guided boat trip to the colony, which the hotel calls the largest known nesting population in the Caribbean. Included in the stay.
  • On the water Kayaks with a guided mangrove tour, paddleboards, windsurfing, Hobie Cats, snorkelling and fishing gear, all included.
  • The Mangrove The restaurant on the first floor of the clubhouse, with a French chef cooking local fish and seafood.
