The hotel
Between the heath and the harbour.
Color Hotel Skagen stands on Gammel Landevej, the old road into town, two kilometres from the centre and five minutes on foot from the Frederikshavnsvej station. The buildings stand around a courtyard garden, with dunes, beach grass and open sky beyond. The hotel describes itself as the only four-star hotel in Skagen, and VisitDenmark calls it the largest, with room for some four hundred guests.
The house counts fifty years of welcoming guests at the tip of Jutland. The interiors are light Scandinavian, and a newer wing, Lynghaven, adds deluxe rooms with their own balconies or terraces. The Skagen Painters' museum, Grenen and the buried church are all a short ride away, and the hotel hires out bicycles. It also holds the Green Key label for its environmental management.

Flying to Skagen.
Aalborg is the nearest airport for scheduled flights and for private jets, about 100 kilometres to the south-west. Allow about an hour and a quarter by car, our estimate, up the E45 and through Frederikshavn. The hotel is on the road into Skagen, two kilometres before the centre.
