The hotel
Murals around a courtyard.
Pug Seal took over a nineteenth-century mansion a few blocks from the cathedral and the Zócalo, and restored it around its open courtyard of stone pillars and wooden beams. The walls are covered in colourful murals drawn from Zapotec and Mixtec culture. Like its sister hotels in Mexico City, it feels more like a private house than a hotel.
Most of the twenty suites face the courtyard, away from the street. Only the Master Suites look outwards, and some of those have a balcony over the neighbourhood. There is no restaurant. Breakfast is ordered from a menu and served in the room or the courtyard, with coffee, tea, fruit and snacks set out through the day and mezcal poured whenever you ask for it.
- The courtyard Open to the sky, lined with stone pillars and painted with murals, and the place for breakfast.
- Turned from the street Standard, deluxe and executive suites all face inwards; only the Master Suites look out over the street.
- In the centre A few blocks from the cathedral and the Zócalo, with Santo Domingo and the markets on foot.
