The hotel
A house built from Mexican craft.
Casa Santo Origen stands on the northern edge of Oaxaca City, in San Felipe del Agua, where the town meets the foothills of the Sierra. The architect Luis García R. laid it out as a private compound of courtyards, terraces and gardens, with the mountains behind. The stone is yellow cantera from Magdalena Apasco, and each of the eight suites is named after a region of the state.
Roberto López did the interiors. Baths are hammered copper from Santa Clara del Cobre, the furniture is made of macuil wood, and most of the art comes from Oaxacan artists. The kitchen follows a concept by Blanca De la Mora and Mario Zumarán, and the bar pours five mezcals of its own. The MICHELIN Guide has given the hotel a Key two years running.
- Saltwater pool An outdoor pool in the gardens, with the Sierra behind.
- Five house mezcals The bar keeps five mezcals made for the hotel.
- Close to town About fifteen minutes by car from the historic centre, and the hotel runs a shuttle.
