The hotel

Built from its own hillside.

Brian Schon, Nathan Rodgers and Santiago Giraldo Díaz started Cannúa about a decade ago on a mountainside near Marinilla, in eastern Antioquia. The architects Lucas Henquin and Federico Cairoli designed the lodge, and its walls are compressed earth bricks pressed and dried in the sun on the estate. Bamboo, and timber from fallen or discarded trees, did the rest.

Three quarters of the lodge sits on protected forest, and the eleven hectares around it have been replanted. A trail laid by pre-Hispanic people crosses the land. The kitchen cooks from a large permaculture garden, and in 2025 the MICHELIN Guide gave the lodge two Keys, one of the two Colombian hotels to reach that level that year. Guests can also visit the spa and the bar deck.

  • The cabins Eight free-standing cabins with wraparound windows over the San Nicolás valley.
  • From the garden A restaurant cooking modern Colombian food from the lodge's permaculture garden, with no pork or beef on the menu.
  • The old trail A walking path laid by pre-Hispanic people runs through the property.
