The city

The island, the harbour and Kowloon.

Central is where the island meets the water. The Peak Tram has climbed from Garden Road to Victoria Gap since 1888, and the Star Ferry, founded the same year, still crosses to Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon. Up the hill on Hollywood Road, the old police station and Victoria Prison now hold galleries and courtyards.

Cantonese dining rooms and French kitchens share the top of the MICHELIN list, often in the same hotels. Come between November and March, when the air is dry and the days run from 18 to 24 °C. From May to September the city is hot and very wet, and typhoons are most likely in August and September.

When to go

November to March.

There are two seasons. November to March is dry and mild, with highs from 18 to 24 °C. From May to September the heat and humidity build, rain passes 250 mm a month, and tropical storms are most frequent in August and September.
