The hotel

From private house to club.

Colony Club began in the 1930s as a private house by the sea at Porters, in the parish of St James. It later became the first residential club on Barbados, and for more than seventy years guests have come back to the same stretch of the west coast. Four acres of gardens lie between the road and the beach, and every one of the ninety-six rooms has a balcony or a patio.

In 2025 the resort reopened after a full renovation as the first Luxury Collection resort in Barbados. The rooms were redesigned with furniture made for them, and the restaurants were rethought around Bajan cooking and vegetables from the resort's own organic garden. A tasting room for more than 150 rums was added, the first of its kind on Barbados. The lagoon pools stayed, four of them, curving through the gardens almost to the sand.

  • The lagoon pools Four freshwater pools that wind between the gardens and the beach, with cabanas beside them and a swim-up bar.
  • The Rum Vault A tasting room with more than 150 rums from around the world, led by a rum ambassador, the first of its kind on the island.
  • The Spa at Colony Club Treatments built on the five elements of wood, fire, earth, metal and water, drawing on Barbadian traditions.
