Five-star Paseo de Reding, by the beach, Málaga
Gran Hotel Miramar
King Alfonso XIII opened it in 1926 on the seafront at La Caleta. It spent decades as a hospital and then the law courts, and since 2017 it has been a hotel again, with gardens running down towards the beach.

The hotel
A palace that came back.
Fernando Guerrero Strachan took five years to build it, and King Alfonso XIII opened it in 1926 as the Hotel Príncipe de Asturias. During the Civil War it served as a field hospital. Reopened as the Miramar, it faded and closed in 1967, and for about two decades up to 2008 the building housed Málaga's provincial court.
Hoteles Santos bought it at public tender in 2008, restored the carved Moorish arches, the tiles, frescoes and stucco ceilings, and reopened it in stages from December 2016, with the official opening in 2017. Aneta Mijatovic did the interiors. The terraces have since appeared in The Crown, and Genius: Picasso held its premiere here.

- Sisley spa A thermal circuit over two floors, with a Finnish sauna, hammam and ice fountain.
