The hotel

Fifty-six acres on Benaulim beach.

Taj Exotica opened in 1999 on the long sandy shore of South Goa and was remodelled in 2004. The architecture looks to the Mediterranean: tiled roofs, wide verandas, an atrium full of sun and broad shaded corridors. Inside, the rooms mix Goan and Portuguese styles in dark wood. It belongs to IHCL, the Taj group, which now runs sixteen hotels across Goa.

The grounds cover 56 acres and run down to about 700 metres of Benaulim beach. A main building holds 32 rooms and the suites; the rest are villas set out through the gardens, some with a plunge pool. Between them lie the golf course, tennis courts and the pool. Six restaurants and bars range from Goan Portuguese cooking at Miguel Arcanjo to grills on the sand.

  • Golf by the sea An executive golf course and a putting green inside the grounds.
  • J Wellness Circle The Taj spa, with an Ayurveda sanctuary and, from November to April, treatment pavilions on the beach.
  • Lobster Village Grills on the sand in season, with the day's catch.
