The hotel
Raffles on its own island.
Raffles Udaipur opened in 2021, the first hotel of the Singapore house in India. It stands on a private island in Udai Sagar Lake, east of the city, and guests cross from the shore by launch. The building takes the form of a Rajasthani palace, with tall columns and marble floors in the entrance hall and Mughal touches in the architecture.
Inside, the designers mixed Rajput and Western references, with painted murals and furniture made by local artisans. All 101 rooms and suites face the lake, and some have a balcony, a garden or a plunge pool of their own. Butlers look after the guests. In the evening there is the Writers Bar, lined with books, and a Long Bar named after the original at Raffles Singapore.
- The crossing A launch takes guests from the lakeshore to the island, about twenty minutes from the airport by car.
- The Writers Bar Classic cocktails and afternoon tea among thousands of books.
- Sawai Kitchen Recipes from the royal households of Rajputana, with cooking classes at Rasoi alongside.
