The hotel
Two generations on the hill.
André Charneau and his family began building in 1968, in a Caribbean style of their own design, and the first guests came the following year, when the place was called the Village St Jean Hotel. The cottages went up in local stone and mahogany on a slope above the bay, with about ten acres of garden planted between them and a pool at the centre.
Catherine Charneau and her brother Bertrand run it today, the second generation of the family, and the name is now Le Village St Barth. The hotel sits on a narrow back road above Saint-Jean, catching the trade winds. The beach, its shops and restaurants are a short walk downhill, Gustavia is about ten minutes away by car, and the farthest beaches on the island about thirty.
- Infinity pool A pool with a jacuzzi in the garden, where breakfast is also served.
- A kitchen in every cottage Each cottage has its own kitchen, so lunch can be bought in Saint-Jean and eaten on the terrace.
- Massages Treatments in the cottage or in the well-being cottage, with a fitness room on site.
Rooms & suites
Cottages, and two villas.
Most guests stay in cottages scattered through the garden, each with a terrace and a kitchen. Some have a hot tub of their own.
- Cottages Tradition and Superior Tradition cottages have mahogany furniture and walls of local stone. Superior cottages are more contemporary, with a wrap-around terrace and a private sun deck.
- Families Family Cottage A two-storey Superior cottage for up to six guests.
