The hotel
An old inn in a side valley.
The Engel traces its history to 1780, and parts of the house still stand on centuries-old walls. It lies in Obertal, a side valley of Baiersbronn, with meadows around the buildings and the forest above. Over the years the inn grew into a self-contained resort: rooms in polished wood and earth tones in the main buildings, and freestanding chalets further out, each with its own sauna and terrace.
The Wolke 7 spa spreads over several levels, inside and out, and passes 5,000 square metres. There are eleven saunas and steam baths, an earth sauna by the lake, pools of salt and fresh water, and a brine pool kept at 36 °C for floating. In August 2026 a textile sauna area opened for guests of every age, and the indoor spa is due for a full renovation in the first half of 2027.
