The hotel
An old capital on Sathorn Road.
The hotel takes its name from Sukhothai, the first Thai capital, and opened in 1991 as the Beaufort Sukhothai. Kerry Hill and Ed Tuttle, both known for their work with Aman, kept it low: teak walls and floors, Thai fabrics and colonnades around courtyards and ponds, on grounds of about six acres set well back from the traffic of South Sathorn Road.
Later came the Club Wing, a taller block with contemporary rooms, city views and a lounge of its own. The original building is now the Main Wing. Both belong to HKR International, and the hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The MICHELIN Guide gives it two Keys in the 2026 Thailand selection. Its largest room, the Sukhothai Suite on the ninth floor, comes with a grand piano.
- Gardens in the city About two and a half hectares of lawns, ponds and courtyards between the rooms and the road.
- The pool A 25 metre infinity-edge pool outdoors, with the Pool Terrace Café and Bar beside it and a hammam in the spa.
- Chocolate afternoons From Friday to Sunday the Lobby Salons lay out a chocolate buffet in the afternoon.
Rooms & suites
Two wings, two moods.
The Main Wing is low, panelled in teak and looks onto the courtyards; the Club Wing is higher and newer, with city views and lounge access.
- Main Wing Deluxe Rooms, Executive, Deluxe and Garden Suites Teak floors and walls, Thai fabrics, and views of the courtyards and ponds.
- Club Wing Club Rooms and Club Suites Contemporary rooms, some with balconies, and all-day food and drink in the Club Lounge.
- Signature suite The Sukhothai Suite 198 square metres on the ninth floor, with a grand piano in the lounge, a private dining room, a kitchen, a study and a 25 square metre bathroom floored in teak.
