The hotel

Baron's Cove, renamed.

For decades this was Baron's Cove, the original resort of Sag Harbor, on 2.64 acres at the water's edge. In the middle of the last century Paul Newman, Truman Capote, Jackson Pollock and John Steinbeck all passed through. The property later moved upmarket and was run by Cape Resorts before the sale. Main Street and Havens Beach are both within walking distance of the rooms.

Blue Flag Capital, which runs Faraway hotels on Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, bought the property and spent the months between the 2025 and 2026 seasons on it. Jenny Bukovec Studio did the interiors in sea colours, textured fabrics and shell details. It reopened in June 2026 as the first Faraway in New York, and the MICHELIN Guide gave it a Key that September.

Getting there

Flying to East Hampton.

East Hampton Town Airport is about 25 minutes by car and takes private jets; for larger jets and customs, Francis S. Gabreski at Westhampton Beach is around 45 minutes away by our estimate. JFK, the usual long-haul arrival, is about two and a half hours by road, and helicopters and seaplanes from Manhattan reach Sag Harbor in about 35 minutes.

Business & First Class Airline arrivals Long-haul passengers land at JFK and continue east by car, or by helicopter or seaplane from Manhattan: helicopters leave the West 30th Street and East 34th Street heliports for East Hampton, Southampton, Sag Harbor and Montauk in about 35 minutes, and seaplanes fly from the East River to the bays in 35 to 40. Request a fare Private Jet Private aviation East Hampton Town Airport, three miles west of the village, has a 4,255-foot runway, a seasonal control tower and one FBO, Sound Aircraft Services.
