The hotel
A Harare address since 1915.
The Meikles was established in 1915 beside what is now Africa Unity Square, in the middle of Harare. The city around it has changed name and flag since then, and the hotel has stayed put. Its 312 rooms are split between a north and a south wing, and both look across the square. The National Gallery of Zimbabwe and Harare Gardens are close by on foot.
In May 2024 it reopened after a renovation as Hyatt Regency Harare The Meikles, the first Hyatt hotel in Zimbabwe. The rooms were redone in a contemporary style and a new all-day restaurant, The Kitchen, faces the square. The hotel kept its old name in the new one, and it still holds the national five-star grade. A spa, a gym and a first-floor pool deck came with the work.
