The hotel
Five stars by the Nam Song.
On 5 August 2022 the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism gave Tmark five stars, the first resort in Vang Vieng to receive them. The mayor came to the ceremony. The country had only just reopened to travellers, and the tourism board called the award a hopeful sign. The resort is the first in Laos for Tmark Hotels & Resort, and its managing director is Kim Ki Chang.
It sits on the bank of the Nam Song in Muangsong Village, close to the centre of town. Across the water rise the karst mountains, and every room has a balcony facing the garden, the pool and those mountains. A shuttle runs into town every day, and the staff between them speak English, Korean, Thai and Tagalog. Dio Spa, a fitness centre and rooms for meetings and banquets complete the resort.

Every room has a balcony over the garden and pool. Ninety-four of the 108 are Deluxe rooms of 32 square metres.

Flying to Vang Vieng.
Wattay International in Vientiane takes scheduled flights and private jets, and is about 160 kilometres from Vang Vieng by road. The Laos-China railway is the quicker way up: the fastest train from Vientiane takes about 40 minutes.
