The hotel
The house of the king's adviser.
The palace was first conceived in 1926 as a residence for Ahmad Tazi, an adviser to the king. It stands on Jbel Lekbir, a wooded hill above the city, among eucalyptus trees about a hundred years old. From the upper floors the view runs over the old city to the mountains on the horizon. The hotel takes its name from the family, and the address is still the Palais Tazi.
Katara Hospitality of Qatar owns it, and Fairmont opened the hotel at the end of 2022. The architects OBMI and CCCRA restored its 1920s rooms and details and enlarged the building. Moroccan craftsmen laid the zellige, polished the tadelakt walls and carved the mashrabiya screens. Olive, citrus and pomegranate trees fill nearly nine acres of garden, and a pottery workshop with a local artisan is open to guests.
- The spa About 2,500 square metres, with ten treatment rooms, a hammam, a vitality pool and a solarium.
- In the woods Gardens of almost nine acres on the hillside, planted with old eucalyptus, olive, citrus and pomegranate trees.
- Tea in the Rose Room Afternoon tea is served in the Rose Room, and sunrise yoga on the roof terrace.
