The hotel

Four generations of Morrows.

Charles Morrow and his friend Archie Archibald bought the Ocho Rios property in 1958, after a decade running a hotel in Montego Bay. Italian builders, the Maffessanti brothers, had put up the Main House and the West Wing. In 1959 the new owners added suites, doubled the verandahs and filled the rooms with antiques. Churchill came often and kept to the White Suite; Marilyn Monroe and Arthur Miller, Noël Coward and Ian Fleming all stayed.

Charles's sons Peter and Eric joined in 1981 and took over after his death in 1987. Around 2000 they bought the land at North Bend and built cottages with infinity pools and a spa on the cliffs. A fourth generation now works there. So does a black Labrador: every one has been called Shadow, and Shadow V arrived in 2023. Eric's wife Belinda looks after the grounds and founded the White River Fish Sanctuary.
