The hotel

An island resort in the harbour.

Bolgatty is one of the islands in Kochi's harbour, set between the old fort and the mainland. Lulu Group International built the resort here on 26 acres of gardens facing the backwaters of Vembanad Lake, and still owns it. Hyatt announced the opening in May 2018: Kerala's first Grand Hyatt and the third in India. Outlook Traveller, touring it before the doors opened, thought it could pass for a second palace on the island.

There are 264 rooms and suites, with views of the lake, the gardens or the city. Four villas have private access, each with a kitchen, a library and a terrace around its own plunge pool. Next door stands the Lulu Bolgatty International Convention Center, one of the largest in South India by the hotel's account, which the hotel manages for conferences and weddings.
