The hotel

Sofitel on the Barú shore.

Accor opened the resort on 1 December 2021 under the name Sofitel Barú Calablanca. Barú lies south of Cartagena, separated from the city by the Canal del Dique, and the hotel sits on a sheltered cove with a private beach. Many guests, the MICHELIN Guide observes, never leave the grounds.

It was the first property in the region to earn LEED certification. Rooms are done in natural materials and earth tones, with artwork and tapestries by a Colombian artist drawing on the birds and seascapes of the coast. Even the entry rooms have a balcony facing the sea; the largest suites add terraces, Jacuzzis, kitchens and a butler.

  • Four infinity pools The main pool falls in two levels towards the sea. Families have pools of their own, and LïLOT is a pool bar kept for adults.
  • The spa Treatment rooms, a sauna, a Turkish bath and a room for yoga.
  • Off the property Sailing classes and mountain-bike rides, with the Rosario Islands a short boat trip away.
