The hotel

Art Deco on Parque Lleras.

Marquee opened in 2021 as a design hotel on Parque Lleras, the square at the centre of El Poblado's nightlife. The look mixes clean modern lines with Art Deco: high concrete ceilings, brass lanterns, wood panelling, gold detail and windows from floor to ceiling. Art hangs throughout, and the lobby bar is cut from onyx. It was built for business travellers as much as for weekends away.

The hotel is small, at forty-two rooms in four types, and two penthouse suites at the top. Abbiocco by Carmen, the restaurant, sits on a covered patio and cooks Italian comfort food with a Colombian accent. The roof holds a pool for guests and an open-air bar that looks across El Poblado to the mountains. Below the lobby, Z Bar has live music from Thursday to Saturday.

Flying to Medellín.

International flights land at José María Córdova in Rionegro; booking sites give about 35 minutes by car, though in traffic we would allow 45 minutes to an hour. Private jets can also use Olaya Herrera, in the valley, about ten minutes from the hotel by our estimate.
