The hotel
A summer house for the Kaiser.
Johann Friedrich Baptist Messmer founded the house in 1834, at the edge of the Kurpark. It served as a summer residence for German rulers, and Kaiser Wilhelm I and the Empress Augusta came back to it again and again. Princes, kings and writers followed.
The building was renovated in 2001 and its rooms were modernised again in 2019. The historic public rooms survive, among them the Malersaal with a painting nearly three hundred years old, while the bedrooms are contemporary. The hotel is now part of the Hommage Luxury Hotels Collection, with the Kurhaus and the casino next door.
- Royal Spa About 800 square metres, with a pool under a glass dome and a sauna area laid out like a Roman bath. Entry is included for hotel guests.
- Next to the Kurhaus The casino and the Kurpark are on the doorstep, and the town centre is about 200 metres away.
- Theaterkeller French bistro cooking in the vaulted cellar of the old house.
