The hotel
Bojagi, wrapped around a hotel.
Hyatt opened the Andaz in September 2019 with KT Estate, on the site of an old KT telecom office. It was the brand's first hotel in Korea. The Dutch firm Studio Piet Boon took bojagi, the patchwork cloth Koreans use to wrap gifts, as its theme: angled walls, patterned panels in soft colours, and light coming in through windows that run from floor to ceiling.
The art is all from Seoul or close to it. Choi Jong-tae's bronze Wish, two and a half metres tall, greets you at the door, and Oh Su-fan's oil painting Dialogue hangs at check-in. A third work, Lee Jung-woong's Brush, painted on Korean rice paper, hangs in the A'+Z bar. Outside, Apgujeong is known for its high-end shops, with Garosu-gil and Cheongdam-dong a short walk or ride away.
- The Summer House A sixteen-metre pool, hot and cold baths, saunas and a seven-metre screen showing scenes of Seoul, two floors below the street.
- On the metro Exit 3 of Apgujeong station on Line 3 leads straight into the hotel.
- Seoul in a bottle The Korean perfumer Tamburins made the hotel's scent, inspired by mugwort rice cakes wrapped in bojagi.
