The hotel
A house on Masaryk, made Mexican.
Las Alcobas was once a private residence on Presidente Masaryk, the shopping street of Polanco. Its managing partner, Sam Leizorek, asked Yabu Pushelberg for a Mexican hotel without the clichés. The designers lined the lobby with glazed cowhide, cut the iron gates by laser and took a motif from the heavy door mouldings of the Metropolitan Cathedral.
A local artisan scraped a drawing of Aztec origin into the plaster walls. At the heart of the building a freestanding spiral staircase in rosewood climbs seven storeys, its steps kept low so that guests use it. The MICHELIN Guide places it in the newer wave of boutique hotels in Polanco, and finds its rooms, suites and penthouses comfortable and very private.
- Anatol Rodrigo Del Valle's restaurant, cooking from the farm, with a bar and rooms for private dinners.
- Aurora Spa Treatments built on old healing methods and ingredients native to Mexico.
- On Masaryk The boutiques of Polanco start at the door, and Pujol and Quintonil are in the same district.
