The hotel
Art Nouveau, with a new wing.
La Margna was built in 1907 to designs by Nicolaus Hartmann, the St. Moritz architect, in the Engadin Art Nouveau style, a few steps from the railway station. When it closed for restoration, Hartmann's granite pillars, wood panelling and plasterwork were kept and the listed lobby lounge became the hotel bar. For decades before, it had been a landmark of the village under the name La Margna.
The London firm Divercity Architects added the Grace Wing beside it, with full-height windows over the lake. More than ninety million Swiss francs went into the project, and in 2023 the hotel reopened as Grace La Margna, the first hotel opening in St. Moritz for more than fifty years. Twenty-seven of the 74 rooms are in the new wing. The hotel belongs to Small Luxury Hotels of the World.
