The hotel
A palace that became a hotel.
The building on Mekkah Road was designed as a royal palace, and it opened as a Ritz-Carlton in 2011. It stands in fifty-two acres of lawns and gardens at Al Hada, just off the Diplomatic Quarter. The MICHELIN inspectors describe soaring arches, frescoed ceilings and a great deal of marble, and a hotel that keeps the city at a distance.
There are 492 rooms, many with Juliet balconies over the gardens. In a courtyard, the Chorisia Lounge sits beneath a South American chorisia tree some four hundred years old and Lebanese olive trees that are older still. Forbes Travel Guide rates the hotel Five-Star in 2026. Beyond the rooms there are more than 64,000 square feet of ballrooms and meeting space, an auditorium and a bowling alley of six lanes.
- The gardens Fifty-two acres of landscaped grounds around the palace, with olive trees around six hundred years old.
- Indoor pool A pool under cover with a hot tub, overlooked by Azzurro, the Italian restaurant.
- Strike A bowling alley of six lanes inside the hotel, serving mocktails and smoothies.
