The hotel

A garden under glass in Tsim Sha Tsui East.

The Royal Garden opened in 1981 at 69 Mody Road in Tsim Sha Tsui East, on the Kowloon side of the harbour. The building is arranged around a central atrium some thirty-four metres high, lit from above, with plants trailing from almost every level and glass lifts running up the middle. Restaurants and lounges open onto it, Le Soleil among them. There are 445 rooms, 54 of them suites.

A re-imaging that cost HK$240 million was finished in 2011, and the rooms were remade with mattresses built for the hotel. The Sky Tower Suites on the eighteenth and nineteenth floors are by Bilkey Llinas Design. On the roof, a heated pool of 25 metres in a Roman style sits beside a sundeck facing Victoria Harbour. Six restaurants share the building, from Sabatini for Italian cooking to Dong Lai Shun for Beijing and Huaiyang dishes.

  • The atrium More than thirty metres of planted galleries under natural light, with glass lifts and restaurants looking on.
  • The Sky Pool A heated rooftop pool of 25 metres, with a sundeck and Victoria Harbour beyond.
