The hotel
London manners on Peking Road.
The hotel opened in 1989 under another name and became The Langham in 2003, taking the name of the London hotel that opened in 1865 and calls itself Europe's first grand hotel. It stands at 8 Peking Road, a few minutes on foot from the Star Ferry and the MTR, in the shopping streets of Tsim Sha Tsui. There are 498 rooms and suites over sixteen floors.
A renovation of US$30 million in 2014 redid 230 rooms, the club floor and the Palm Court, which is modelled on the London room where afternoon tea was first served. The lobby has a hand-painted ceiling, marble floors and chandeliers, and the rooms carry Art Deco touches from the 1920s. Artesian, the London cocktail bar, opened its first branch here. Up on the fifteenth floor are the pool and the Chuan spa.
- T'ang Court Three MICHELIN stars for eleven years running under chef Wong Chi Fai, the longest run for a Cantonese kitchen in Hong Kong.
- The Palm Court Afternoon tea in the Victorian manner, served on Wedgwood, in a room built after the original in London.
- On the roof An outdoor pool and Jacuzzi on the fifteenth floor, beside the Chuan Body + Soul spa and the gym.
