The hotel
The Hongkong Hotel, renamed twice.
The hotel opened in 1969 as the Hongkong Hotel, borrowing the name of an older hotel in Central run by the same company, and let its first 250 of 800 rooms that July. It was Wharf's first venture into hotels, run at the start by Hongkong & Shanghai Hotels, the company behind The Peninsula. Hongkong & Shanghai Hotels withdrew in 1985, and Wharf has run the hotel itself ever since.
In 1989 it became the Omni Hong Kong Hotel, and in 1996 the Marco Polo Hongkong Hotel. It stands where Canton Road meets the harbour, joined to Harbour City and Ocean Terminal, where cruise ships berth. The Star Ferry across the harbour leaves from a pier close by. There is no spa in the building; guests use the two inside Harbour City, one of the largest malls in Hong Kong. Today the hotel has 585 rooms.
- Sixth-floor sundeck An outdoor pool in a courtyard, lined with day beds and wicker loungers.
- Harbour City next door One of the largest malls in Hong Kong, with Spa L'Occitane and THANN Sanctuary for treatments.
- Continental Club Club rooms and suites come with lounge access and their own concierge.
