The hotel
Since 1886 on the Calle del Lobo.
Agustín Ibarra, who owned the Café Inglés, opened the hotel on 27 July 1886 in what was then the Calle del Lobo, today Echegaray. It was the first hotel in Madrid with its own restaurant inside, and one of the first buildings in the city lit by electricity. Galdós, Clarín, Valle-Inclán and Virginia Woolf all stayed.
Hidden Away Hotels spent nearly five years restoring it and reopened it in March 2018. Rockwell Group designed the interiors as a tribute to the 1920s: brass, geometric ornament, dark wooden floors and a round marble bar in the lobby. Outside, the streets of the Barrio de las Letras, the old literary quarter where those writers walked, run down towards the Paseo del Prado.
- The lobby bar A round marble counter with leather stools under a lit bottle shelf hung from the ceiling.
- LobByto The restaurant, with Iberian cooking in a modern style.
- Library and spa A library with a fireplace, a gym and a Sisley spa.
