The hotel
A granary on stilts, redrawn.
Michal Tyles founded Innit on Ekas Bay, in the far south-east of Lombok, on the island's south coast. He asked the Indonesian architect Andra Matin and the studio d-associates of Gregorius Supie Yolodi and Maria Rosantina to design it. The first seven beach houses opened in 2023 under the Design Hotels label. Guests arrive by road, or by the hotel's boat across the bay from Awang harbour.
Each house takes the Sasak lumbung, the raised rice granary of Lombok, as its model: a box of concrete, glass and wood lifted on stilts, with two bedrooms upstairs and an open living space on the sand below. Floors and walls are handmade polished terrazzo, the furniture bamboo, and the beds face the sea. More is planned on the estate, including a long, single-storey hotel building and private residences.
