The hotel

A museum you can sleep in.

Tugu Hotels is a private Indonesian group with houses in Bali, Java and Jakarta, a business born, in its own words, of one man's love for the romantic history of the islands. In Lombok it took six hectares of palm gardens on Sire Beach, in Sigar Penjalin on the north-west coast, with Mount Rinjani behind and the Gili Islands across the water. A temple of about two hundred years still stands in the grounds.

The buildings borrow from Majapahit and Balinese temple architecture, and the walls carry scenes from the Mahabharata, restored wooden panels and terracotta by Lombok craftsmen. In October 2025, when the MICHELIN Guide published its first Indonesian selection, the hotel received one Key; it kept it in 2026. Meals are served at Bale Kokok Pletok, an open pavilion under a carved rooster guarded by Dewi Sri, and the Gedong Gandrung, the Hall of Love, is kept for weddings.

  • Hening Swarga Spa An open-air spa raised above the treetops like a temple, its beds facing the sea among Majapahit and Singhasari statues.
  • The long pool It ends at Sang Hyang Purnama, an altar watched over by a stone elephant.
  • Close to the Gilis The islands are about fifteen minutes away by boat.
