The hotel
Vreugd en Rust.
The house is a classicist country seat of the eighteenth century, seven bays wide and plastered white, set in a landscape park on the Oosteinde in Voorburg. Side wings and a wooden attic came in 1852, and a conservatory was built along the whole rear façade in 1920. The estate is called Vreugd en Rust, joy and rest, and has been a national monument since 2005.
Inside, the staircase and the hall ceiling keep their rococo stucco, and several rooms have Empire ceilings from the nineteenth century. Joey de Kruijf has been co-owner since 2017. The house joined Relais & Châteaux in 2022, and the restaurant won its Michelin star the following year. In its kitchen, Tim Bood and Hette Hettema cook classics in the French and Dutch tradition.
- Central Park restaurant One Michelin star for Tim Bood and Hette Hettema, who cook French and Dutch classics with seasonal produce.
- The park An English-style park around the house, with a sheltered terrace and an outdoor bar for summer evenings.
- The rooms Hästens beds, bold patterned wallpaper and carpets, and bathrooms in white stone.
