The hotel
A W on the west bank.
The Peninsula Bangkok opened in November 1998 on Charoen Nakhon Road, on the Thonburi side of the Chao Phraya, looking across the water at the towers of Silom and Sathorn. The tower rises 37 floors above a driveway of 333 feet. Its plan is shaped like a W, with about ten rooms to a floor, so that every one of the 370 rooms has a view of the river.
For two decades the hotel was owned half by The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, the group behind The Peninsula Hong Kong, and half by the Phataraprasit family. In 2020 the group bought the family's share outright. The hotel marked its twentieth year in 2018. Today Forbes Travel Guide rates it Five-Star, and the MICHELIN Guide gives it one Key in its 2026 Thailand selection.
- The pool A three-tiered pool of about 88 metres along the river, lined with twelve Thai salas.
- Across the river Four restored rice barges cross between the hotel pier and the Skytrain station at Saphan Taksin.
- By air and road A private helipad, Rolls-Royce and BMW cars, and a green tuk-tuk of the hotel's own.
