The hotel

The railway hotel on Kenmare Bay.

Park Hotel Kenmare opened in 1897, built as a railway hotel for people touring the south-west of Ireland. It stands just above the town, with gardens running down towards the water and the Caha Mountains across the bay. The town is a short walk away and the golf course lies next door. For many years the hotel belonged to the Brennan brothers, who sold it to Bryan and Tara Meehan, a couple who had known it for a long time.

The Meehans have since restored the whole house, finishing in 2026. Each room was redone with natural materials, old furniture and original art, and more than two hundred works from their collection hang through the building, Sean Scully, Andy Warhol and Callum Innes among them. Bryan O'Sullivan, a designer who grew up in Kenmare, led the interiors. The last piece was the Landscape Spa, opened in the summer of 2026 in place of the old Sámas spa.

  • Landscape Spa Nine hundred square metres by Jo Nagasaka of Schemata Architects in Tokyo, with an outdoor Stone Bath kept at 38 °C all year, saunas, a cold plunge and a 25-metre lap pool.
  • The art tour The hotel leads a tour of the collection every day. Landline itself is served in the Sean Scully Room.
  • The grounds A herb garden, croquet lawn, tennis courts and a lake, with the town's golf course next door.
