The hotel
An auberge for the opera.
Capella Hanoi opened in the spring of 2021 on Le Phung Hieu, a short walk from the Hanoi Opera House and a block from Hoan Kiem Lake. Bill Bensley imagined it as a petite auberge where the singers, composers and artists of the 1920s might have stayed after a performance. The 47 rooms and suites run from 35 to 194 square metres, with four Opera Suites on the top floor.
Each of the 47 rooms is decorated on its own, and each is named after a figure from the opera, a performer, composer or designer. Bensley filled them with original operatic artefacts and portraits painted by the artist Kate Spencer. Backstage, the main restaurant, sits among theatrical costumes and vintage tableware, and Diva's Lounge is named for the leading ladies of the 1920s.
- Hibana by Koki The hotel's Japanese restaurant, with one MICHELIN star, kept in the 2026 Vietnam guide.
- La Grotta An Art Deco indoor pool beside the Auriga Spa, whose treatments follow the phases of the moon.
- The Opera Suites Four suites on the top floor, each with a wide terrace over the tree-lined streets of the French Quarter.
